Meet one of our historical marker interns for 2012 – Bonnie

Welcome Bonnie!  Bonnie is one of our interns in the Historical Marker Program this summer.  She received her B.A. in History from St. Edward’s University in 2006 and is currently working on her M.A. in Public History at Texas State University – San Marcos.  She is originally from Austin, Texas. In her spare time Bonnie enjoys reading, running the trail at Town Lake, watching UT football and spending time with her husband, family, and English bulldog, Beryl.

Bonnie’s historical interests are in local and community history and historic preservation. She likes the historical marker program because it preserves the memory of past events, people, and places and instills pride in Texas communities. After graduation, Bonnie hopes to find a job that combines her interests in Central Texas history and preservation, as well as pursue public education opportunities in historic preservation.

About THC Historical Markers

Probably the most visible program of the THC, historical markers commemorate diverse topics — from the history and architecture of houses, commercial and public buildings, religious congregations and events that changed the course of local and state history, to individuals who have made lasting contributions to our state, community organizations and businesses, military sites, and many more. Age, significance and architectural requirements govern the eligibility of topics and sites when applying for either a subject marker, Historic Texas Cemetery marker or a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark marker.
